Molds

In the exhibition, Julia Aronson presents ceramic and plaster works created in a process of mold casting. The works focus on two ends: The beginning of life – a pregnant belly and bags of pumped breast milk, and the end of life – a model of Givat Shaul cemetery, based on a photo of the covered area. They resemble memorial monuments to fleeting periods in the life of the artist, who imprints pieces of her everyday reality in the material. While in the “life” sculptures she freezes a moment in time, the “death” reliefs offer a formalist preservation of an eternal existence.

Julia Aronson was born in Moscow and immigrated to Israel in 1989.

She is a multidisciplinary artist who works with painting, sculpture, and site-specific works.

Aronson was an artist with “Studio of Her Own” and currently works in the Artists’ Studios –Teddy.

She studied art at the Art Students League of NY in New York and HaMidrasha School of Art in Beit Berl College, and is currently a student in the MFA program at the University of Haifa.

She holds a master’s degree in physics from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and works in image processing algorithms development.
